Pilates 101: Breathe to engage core

Do you know how to breathe to engage your core? Or that our body is designed to work in sync with our breath? And if we fail to engage our core properly with our breath, it may lead to poor movement mechanics, resulting in pelvic floor dysfunction further down the road?


That is why I always start the first session with a new client on breathing principles. Especially my pre-/post-natal clients, who need to strengthen and stretch their pelvic floor as their body goes through a major transition and load-bearing process. Breathing is central to movement, yet often overlooked and skimmed through in group classes.
