Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact exercise, using a combination of equipment - from the mat, reformer, tower, chair and barrels - to achieve spine and joint mobility, core (e.g. abdominals, glutes, arms, back) and intrinsic muscles (e.g. pelvic floor, rotator cuff) tone and strength. Read more here.

What are the benefits of Pilates?

The benefits are multi-fold, and applicable to all body types.

  • For desk-bound students/workers, Pilates reduces common back and neck aches by strengthening the back, stretching tight hips, and mobilising the spine.

  • For athletes, Pilates can condition the body for greater performance, such as enhancing balance by working on hip/knee/ankle mobility for explosive movements in sports.

  • For pregnant women, Pilates prepares the body for the changes in pregnancy, such as strengthening the posterior chain (glutes, back, hamstrings) to support the shift of the centre of gravity forward as the baby grows. It also prepares the body for birth and recovery, through working on pelvic floor suppleness to support the opening of the birth canal. Having previously worked on the abdominal muscles, clients will also experience quicker recovery post-partum.

  • For post-natal ladies, Pilates helps tone the pelvic floor and core muscles, giving you the energy and strength for your daily caregiving requirements (such as lifting the baby/toddler). It also helps with diastasis recti recovery through releasing the pelvic floor/fascial system, then realigning/strengthening the core muscles.

  • For seniors, Pilates helps in joint stability, balance and proper movement mechanics to reduce injury and prevent falls. It also helps manage the body changes brought about by menopause, working on back and joint stability.

  • For people recovering from injuries/surgeries, Pilates helps in the rehab process, by retraining the stabilising muscles, often using light resistance to support the recovery process.

How is Pilates conducted in your studio?

Clients will experience Pilates in a holistic way, using different apparatus such as the reformer, tower, stability chair and barrels to suit their body needs and fitness goals. Examples of how the different Pilates equipment benefit various body types can be seen here: www.instagram.com/faithinpilates

Duet Pilates (1:2) is conducted in a round robin format, where each client performs an exercise on separate equipment, e.g, footwork on the Stability Chair while the other does arm work on the Reformer, and they switch. In an hour, they would complete around 4-5 sets of exercises. The clients have to be generally healthy with no contraindications that require 1:1 attention.

Where is your studio located?

I am conveniently located 8-mins walk from Clementi MRT station. View on Google Maps

The exact location will be provided upon booking.

How do I prepare for my class?

Wear gym attire, such as a fitting exercise top and leggings to facilitate movement and for the instructor to assess your form and posture easily.

Wear grip socks for hygiene and safety purposes. Here are some examples of grip socks from Decathlon.

What is your refund policy?

The session packages are non-refundable.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please cancel your booking at least 24 hrs in advance, for the following reasons:

  1. You will get your credit back.

  2. We respect each other's time, especially if our schedules have been blocked for the session.

If you do not cancel before the deadline, you will be charged the session credit. The only exception is for those on the 20-Pilates plan, where you are allowed to reschedule your bookings for 2 sessions without penalty.

Faith in Pilates reserves the right to reschedule or cancel the class with at least 24-hr notification.

Can the expiry dates of the class plans be extended?

The expiry dates are designed for you to practise at a regular frequency (at least once a week) to reap the benefits of Pilates. They also include extra buffer to account for life exigencies. As such, expiry dates cannot be extended, though Faith in Pilates will evaluate valid requests for extension on a case-by-case basis.

Can I share the class plans with my friend/family?

You can do Pilates together with a friend, through our Duet Package! For 1:1 sessions, we encourage each client to get a session package on their own, so as to minimise complications in scheduling.

Duets: Can the session still take place if one of us is unable to make it?

The session can be rescheduled, if given at least 24 hrs' notice. However, if one of you is unable to make it after the 24-hr cancellation period, the session will continue so as to be fair to your duet partner, but the absentee's class credit will be forfeited.

Can I bring my child along?

You can bring your pre-crawlers (under the age of 6 months), as there will be baby equipment such as play gym, bouncer and age-appropriate toys set up for them. For older children, pls ensure that there is another trusted adult to care for them while you are having your Pilates session.

Please note that in doing so, you will be bringing your child(ren) at your own risk, and Faith in Pilates shall not be liable for any injury, illness or death arising from your decision to bring your child along for your sessions.

What are your hygiene protocols for your home studio?
  1. Wear grip socks for hygiene and safety purposes. Here are some examples of grip socks from Decathlon.

  2. Do inform me if you are feeling unwell, and the session will be rescheduled. Likewise, I will reschedule if I am feeling unwell.

  3. Please sanitise your hands on arrival.

  4. All equipment is thoroughly disinfected after every use. The studio will also be frequently ventilated with fresh air, via open windows.
